Most peptides use SubQ injection. Pinch skin, insert at 90° for short needles (5/16") or 45° for longer needles.

Understanding gauge — why the number feels backwards

Higher gauge number = thinner needle. A 31G is thinner than a 25G. This confuses nearly every first-timer.

Higher gauge = thinner needle. 31G is the thinnest common option and least painful.

Why 31G won the community vote

Across dozens of r/Peptides threads, 31G 5/16" insulin syringes dominate. Thin enough that many users feel almost nothing on insertion. Multiple users note switching from 30G to 31G and immediately noticing the difference.

What the community is actually using

I use .3ml 31ga 5/16 inch ones. I don't take much and .3ml is the perfect size IMO. Can barely feel it going in.

31g 5/16th for SubQ, was using 30g 1/2 but much prefer the 31g shorter needle. For test I use a 25g 1 inch in the glute and don't even feel it most times.

31 gauge 5/16 insulin syringe, look for the EasyTouch brand. I hate needles but I don't even feel it go in or come out. Every time it makes me giddy that something I fear so much is simply no problemo!

For water based peptide? 30–31 gauge 5/16"–1/2" needle. Syringe could be 0.5–1.0 mL. That covers basically everything most people research.

I heard anything between 29–31G is perfect and between 6–8mm size needle is good. Been using this for BPC-157 and it's worked perfectly. No bruising, minimal site reactions.

Injector pen with screw-on 8mm 32G tips. Easy done. Transfer peptide from vial to 3ml cartridge vials. If you really hate needles, this removes basically all the friction.

Community consensus

31G 5/16" insulin syringes are the most-recommended setup. BD and EasyTouch cited most often. Volume preference splits ~50/50 between 0.5mL and 1mL.

Does needle length actually matter for SubQ?

For SubQ injections, length has minimal effect — as long as the needle reaches fatty tissue, you're fine. A 2023 PMC study confirmed 4mm needles are appropriate for all body types at 90°.

LengthmmAngleWho It SuitsNotes
5/16"8mm90°Most body typesCommunity preference — slightly more comfortable
1/2"12.7mm45–90°All body typesStandard SubQ length, works well
5/8"16mm45°Larger body typesRarely needed for peptide SubQ

Thinner body types: use 45° angle or pinch

If you have very little body fat, a 1/2" needle at 90° without a skin pinch can accidentally hit muscle. Use 5/16", pinch the skin, or insert at 45°.

What to actually buy

One SKU covers 95% of cases — 31G 5/16" 1mL insulin syringes. BD Ultra-Fine 31G or EasyTouch 31G at any pharmacy. $15–$25 per box of 100.

Draw needle vs. injection needle

Some researchers use an 18G to draw BAC water from the vial, then swap to a fresh 31G for injection. Preserves the fine tip and reduces blunting. Optional but common among experienced users.
